Edoardo era il bibliotecario della tranquilla biblioteca della città. Viveva tra i libri. Dava libri alle persone e li riprendeva. Ma lui non li ha mai letti.
Edward was the librarian of the quiet city library. He lived among books. He gave people books and took them back. But he never read them himself.
Un giorno, ha trovato una strana nota in un libro restituito. Conteneva un enigma.
One day, he found a strange note in a returned book. It contained a riddle.
“Hmm,” ha detto Edoardo, incuriosito. “Questo sembra una caccia al tesoro. Se la risolvo, sarò ricco!”
“Hmm,” said Edward, intrigued. “This seems like a treasure hunt. If I solve it, I’ll be rich!”
L’enigma descriveva una famosa statua. Edoardo ci è andato, e ha trovato un’altra nota, nella mano della statua. La nuova nota aveva un altro enigma, ma aveva anche il titolo di un libro.
The riddle described a famous statue. Edward went there, and found another note, in the statue’s hand. The new note had another riddle, but it also had the title of a book.
Edoardo ha trovato il libro in biblioteca. Non lo aveva mai letto. Ma ora lo ha letto con interesse.
Edward found the book in the library. He had never read it. But now he read it with interest.
Una volta che ha letto il libro, ha capito cosa significava l’enigma. Parlava del vecchio teatro. Quando ci è andato, ha trovato un’altra nota nascosta nell’atrio d’ingresso. Conteneva un altro enigma, e il titolo di un altro libro.
Once he had read the book, he understood what the riddle meant. It was talking about the old theatre. When he went there, he found another note hidden in the entrance hall. It contained another riddle, and the title of another book.
Gli enigmi mandavano Edoardo in tutta la città, e in tutta la biblioteca. Per settimane, ha lavorato duramente per leggere i libri e risolvere gli enigmi.
The riddles sent Edward all over the city, and all around the library. For weeks, he worked hard to read the books and solve the riddles.
Finalmente, ha trovato l’ultimo indizio. Lo ha portato a un vecchio albero nel parco. Nascosta su un ramo, ha trovato un’ultima nota.
At last, he found the final clue. It led him to an old tree in the park. Hidden on a branch, he found a final note.

Confuso e deluso, Edoardo è tornato in biblioteca. Ha trovato una donna ad aspettarlo. Era la Professoressa Calamo, un’insegnante di letteratura in pensione nota per il suo amore per gli enigmi.
Confused and disappointed, Edward returned to the library. He found a woman waiting for him. It was Professor Quill, a retired literature teacher known for her love of riddles.
“Vedi, Edoardo,” ha detto la professoressa, “il vero tesoro è sempre stato nelle tue mani – i libri! Sono pieni di storie, conoscenze e saggezza!”
“You see, Edward,” said the professor, “the real treasure has always been in your hands – the books! They’re full of stories, knowledge and wisdom!”
Edoardo ha riso, realizzando la verità. Aveva letto i libri così da poter trovare il tesoro, ma aveva anche davvero apprezzato leggere i libri.
Edward laughed, realizing the truth. He had read the books so he could find the treasure, but he also really enjoyed reading the books.
Da quel giorno in poi, ogni libro che leggeva diventava un tesoro. E di tanto in tanto, trovava un’altra nota dalla Professoressa Calamo, che lo guidava in una nuova avventura.
From that day on, every book he read became a treasure. And from time to time, he’d find another note from Professor Quill, leading him on a new adventure.
