“Você poderia se levantar um momento, por favor?” disse Geraldo a sua namorada.
“Please can you get up, for a moment?” said Gerard to his girlfriend.
Ela estava sentada no sofá, lendo suas cartas. Ela não o ouviu. Gerardo estava usando o aspirador de pó. Ele começou a limpar o sofá.
She was sitting on the sofa, reading her letters. She didn’t hear him. Gerard was using the vacuum cleaner. He started to clean the sofa.
“Desculpe!” disse sua namorada.
“Sorry!” said his girlfriend.
Ela colocou suas cartas de lado e se levantou. Gerardo limpou todas as almofadas do sofá.
She put down her letters and stood up. Gerard cleaned all of the cushions on the sofa.
Sua namorada tentou pegar suas cartas, mas Gerardo as moveu. Ele usou um pano para limpar a mesa.
His girlfriend tried to pick up her letters, but Gerard moved them. He used a cloth to wipe the table.
“Obrigado,” disse Gerardo. Ele a beijou.
“Thank you,” said Gerard. He kissed her.
“Eu sei que você gosta quando nosso apartamento está bem limpo,” ela disse. “Mas é sábado. Por que você não relaxa?”
“I know you like it when our flat is very clean,” she said. “But it’s Saturday. Why don’t you relax?”
“É o primeiro dia do mês,” explicou Gerardo.
“It’s the first day of the month,” Gerard explained.
“Claro,” ela respondeu. “Todo mês, você limpa toda a casa. Certo, como posso ajudar?”
“Of course,” she replied. “Every month, you clean the whole house. Alright, how can I help?”
Gerardo pediu para ela limpar a mesa dela. Quando ela terminou, ele pediu para ela limpar todas as torneiras. Depois, ele pediu para ela lavar todas as cortinas.
Gerard told her to wipe her desk. When she finished, he told her to wipe all the taps. Then he told her to wash all the curtains.
“Já terminamos?” ela perguntou, algumas horas depois.
“Are we finished?” she asked, a few hours later.
“É o primeiro dia da primavera,” explicou Gerardo.
“It’s the first day of spring,” Gerard explained.
“Claro. Toda primavera…”
“Of course. Every spring…”
“Temos que lavar os tapetes.”
“We have to wash the carpets.”
Eles empurraram todos os móveis para fora do quarto. Colocaram a mesa na cozinha, o sofá no quarto e as plantas no banheiro.
They pushed all the furniture out of the room. They put the table in the kitchen, the sofa in the bedroom and the plants in the bathroom.
Gerardo trouxe água e sabão, duas esponjas e dois secadores de cabelo.
Gerard brought water and soap, two sponges, and two hair dryers.
Ele e sua namorada trabalharam a tarde toda e a noite toda. Finalmente, eles empurraram todos os móveis de volta para o quarto.
He and his girlfriend worked all afternoon and all evening. Finally, they pushed all the furniture back into the room.
“Agora, nós terminamos!” disse finalmente Geraldo.
“Now, we are finished!” said Gerard at last.
Eles estavam muito cansados. Suas roupas estavam sujas. Havia sabão em seus braços e pernas. Eles se sentaram no sofá.
They were very tired. Their clothes were dirty. There was soap on their arms and legs. They sat down on the sofa.
Finalmente, sua namorada pegou suas cartas novamente.
Finally, his girlfriend picked up her letters again.
“Esta é do nosso senhorio,” ela disse.
“This one is from our landlord,” she said.
“O que ela diz?”
“What does it say?”
“Temos que sair em um mês!” disse ela chorando. “E – e –”
“We have to leave in one month!” she cried. “And – and –”
“O que foi?” indagou Gerardo.
“What is it?” cried Gerard.
“Nós temos que pagar uma empresa para lavar os tapetes antes de irmos embora.”
“We have to pay for a company to wash the carpets before we leave.”
